Wu World Order

298534_10150288421634916_677379915_7617015_1856600_n

It's two thousand and muthafuckin' twelve!

How's that make you feel? Miss me with all the Mayan conspiracies if you're religious in some other ideology, though, please.

So, the first scarletSmoke post of the new year...it should be an important one, right? Well, it is cuz today, we on that WU-WORLD-ORDER shit. House that for conspiracy?!

What is the Wu World Order you ask? It's the 1 year anniversary party for The Lady Wu aka Lady Wu-Tang aka the Killa Beez aka the Lady Shaolin Heroes aka Wu Goddesses...I may have made a couple of those up but you know the deal! Anyways, 1 year, some Wu-Tang blessings, some opening shows, a couple headliners, and a music video in, Lady Wu is ready to bring the muthafuckin' ruckus!

Saturday, January 28th, 2012 marks the date...so mark that shit...at City Hall. Ru Black explains it best, so I'll let her do what she does and go in-depth about the show and the Shaolin Heroines, but first, some shit to push your fuckin' wig back:

Lady Wu-Tang - Protect Ya Neck

Denver – Brace yourselves for the Wu World Order, Lady Wu-Tang’s first anniversary show.  January 28th, 2012 the Killa Beez will swarm City Hall for a rousing performance of their all female tribute to the Wu-Tang Clan. With new Wu material plus all the classics you love, and backed by Esnine (Prime Element, En Stereo), on the one’s and two’s, the Wu girls will form like Voltron and you won't want to miss it.

Almost one year ago, the premier lineup of female artists, poets, MC’s and deejays in Denver came together as the Lady Wu-Tang – an all female cover band paying tribute to one of the most iconic Hip-Hop groups of all time.  Using the elements of performance theater, the Lady Wu will implement the portions of kung fu cinema and ancient artistry featured so prominently in the Wu’s repertoire, to bring a never before seen show of unstoppable female talent.

Last January the consortium sold out the Walnut Room within an hour of doors opening.  And crowds continued to line-up for the Lady Wu-Tang throughout 2011. This year’s show at City Hall is designed to highlight the longevity of the Wu-tang Clan music while the tribute continues to re-introduce the masses to the killa beez saga.

On 1.28.12, LadySpeech Sankofa, starring as Ghostface, Ebony “Isis Speaks” Booth, in the role of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Bianca Mikahn as Raekwon, Suzi Q. Smith playing Method Man, DJ Bella Scratch as Inspectah Deck, DJ Manizer in the role of GZA, Xencs L. Wing starring as RZA, and Ralonda Simmons as U-God will be in rare form as the Lady Wu-tang.

On the heels of the release of their first tribute video “Protect Ya Neck,” directed by Brandice Robinson, the ladies are more prepared than ever with several new Wu tracks added to the set-list, and a whole slew of other antics. The main room at City Hall is the perfect location to show off this incredibly artistry.

Dyalekt & Spoke-In-Wordz – Pepsi Ballad

Dyalekt & Spoke-In-Wordz

Pepsi Ballad
Dyalekt (Diamond Boiz) and Spoke-In-Wordz (Radio Bums) came together recently to create an ode to a mutually favorite soda: Pepsi. The track, produced by Dyalekt (JClass Beats), features dedications from the heavy-hitters, known in the past for collaborations on Look At Me (Remix) and Go Crazy!, switching up their normally real and lyrically-heavy content to have some fun.  The song is driven by it's catchy instrumental and off-the-wall cadences that could make any Coca-Cola lover shake what they're mama gave them.  With an intro drop from the Pepsi Center's own, the White Shadow himself, DJ Bedz, the song does exactly what it was made to do...make you crave a Pepsi.

The single has been attached with it's artwork.

Mane Rok & Dyalekt - Santanamation

What happens when you take Carlos Santana, Mane Rok, Dyalekt, then put them to do what they do best...?

Now just add features from Xencs L. Wing, Bravo One (One Eyed Kings), and Zé (Diamond Boiz). If that wasn't enough, how about some rhodes played by Riley Boone?

Magic is what you get. No need to guess any longer.

TYL@3:30a (#5): Tom Hanks’ Bro Is Also Woody

tom-hanks

I was gonna go to sleep...then I got caught up on YouTube...and my, oh my, was it amazing, as always. So check this out, I've always said Tom Hanks is like the most normal celebrity on the planet, then Jon Stewart confirmed he felt the same a while back, and now, I'm further convinced: Tom Hanks is a cool ass white dude. I think if I had to vote for a celebrity to be president, I don't know if I'd pick Tom Hanks, but I'd highly consider him.  I bet Tom Hanks could whoop Chuck Norris' ass.

And that's all I got to say about that...

Cholo Fest 3: Backyard Boxing

cholofest3

Good evening, just-got-off-of-workers. How's it feel to finally be online without your boss talkin' shit? Great, I know

So, after an EPIC Fourth of July Weekend (yes, I said EPIC, if you don't like it you can go fuck yourself), I finally got together the videos from Cholo Fest 3 (July 2nd), which was probably the dopest beginning to a weekend since Cholo Fest 2 last year.

The festivities included 7 kegs sitting on ice in a kiddy pool:
(only 4 shown, but there were 7...trust)

An Andrew W.K. coverband:
Fireworks:
But best of all....backyard boxing:

scarletSmoke.net presents:
Cholo Fest 3: Backyard Boxing
07-02-2011

Video source --- Cell phone
Location --- Backyard in Denver, CO
Host --- Joaquin Romero

Match 1
Joe Padilla vs Sam Abdulhafiz

Note --- Obviously cell phone's don't shoot the best video, but I applied image stabilizer's to make it easier on the eyes. Some of the video is choppy because the cell phone I was using kept getting phone calls, which also explains some of the missing pieces, but this is most of the fight. The latter fight videos for Cholo Fest 3 don't have the same problem.

Match 2
Luis Ortega vs Moises Plazola

Note --- The fight had excessive dead time so it's been cut down to the intro and the fighting scenes.

Match 3: Main Event
Thomas Garcia vs Dominic Atencio

Note --- This was the only fight that went the distance. 5 rounds, 2 minutes each. Catch a DenverFrank cameo at the end.

Cholo Fest on Facebook --- https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cholo-Fest/163916160341198

I got to Cholo Fest around 3:30p, and didn't leave til after Midnight...and it was crazy packed even after I left. Yea, I feel bad for anyone who missed it...suckers.

Laws – Yesterday’s Future (Mixtape)

Yesterday's Future (Front)

Been waiting patiently for this one...and it's finally here.  Justice League's very own, Laws brings you a 17 track mixtape, his own personal dedication to 1/4 of the Beatles, Paul McCartney.  The project, Yesterday's Future, has been anticipated by Laws fans for months, and it's finally out.

I'm postin' this one before I even listen to the whole thing because I've been too damn excited about it. Here's why:

"Homeland"

"Momma Miss America"

And here it finally is.  After watching those to videos, bobbin' that head of yours to both of those tracks, if you ain't excited for this mixtape yet, punch yourself.

Full Download: MediaFire

Now that I got this posted, I can finally listen to it myself. Don't fuckin' bother me while I am, either.  You'll feel the same way once your download finishes and you hit Play.

UPDATE 5:38p:

I've listened to it...twice. My conclusion? I've finally heard a mixtape worth listening to on repeat. Yea, I know I said that about Tayyib's mixtape, but as good as I felt about it from the beginning, it lost it's flare a week or two later. Don't get me wrong, it is a dope mixtape, but it wasn't as great as I made it seem. Ehh....it happens. Can't be right all the time.

This one, though...this one is...different. Okay, okay, you don't have to take my word for it, I know how reliable that is considering that last opinion, but when was the last time I lied to you? ....exactly. Laws kills this shit.

Plus, it's always fun to listen catch a hidden track. One of my favorite tracks that Laws has been a part of, Honor, with CyHi Da Prince (another present-time favorite) is featured after the last track, Must Be Wrong, after about 15 seconds. Good surprises when you're a graphic designer, zonin', and you don't realize the mixtape ended and a bonus track started til it's all over.

But don't even take my word for it, check it for your muthafuckin' self. Yes, muthafuckin', because you NEED this mixtape. For real. You NEED it.

Good morning. Yes. Morning. Ever seen a kid cry because they got shampoo on their eyes? Probably. Ever almost cried because you got shampoo in your eyes? Guaranteed. Ever try to rinse shampoo out of your hair but the suds never decimate? ...
