Dyalekt – Death By Ego

00_-_front

It's been since September of 2011 since I've released a project (Santanamation) and since November of 2010 since I've released a solo project (November Hates Me).

So, how does it now make you feel that Death By Ego is finally here?

Dyalekt - Death By Ego

Now, normally I'd go off about how dope it is and blah, blah, blah, but this time, the title is already so egotistical, I'm gonna leave that up to you.  All I'm gonna say about it is it was produced mostly by myself, along with Davey Boy, TC Crook, Tech Groove, and Leezy, and it features Rhias (Air Dubai), Mane Rok, DeeJay Tense, Script, Quse London, Luke Skyy, Benjamin Butters, Bravo One, and Zé & Zome (Diamond Boiz). As a matter of fact, here's the back:

It's free, for the most part.  I say that because it's yours at the small price of a Tweet or Facebook Share.  That's it, just Tweet it or Share it and it's yours...all of it.

Is that not good enough? I know, I should say more, but let's let it speak for itself:

Dyalekt - Tequila & Lime

Now, the rest, my friend, is up to you.

Zome – Z-Funk Era

front(web)

Zome - Z-Funk Era

Diamond Boiz, mutha-funka! That's right, Zome dropped his newest EP today, Z-Funk Era. Yea, the name may sound familiar, and that's because the project was half-inspired by Warren G's Regulate...G-Funk Era. Even the cover art, designed by scarletSmoke Concepts, is a recreation of the classic 2-1-3 album. But don't get it twisted, this isn't some cheap knock off, Zome went in on the project taking all of his own favorite funk samples, flippin' them himself, and layin' out some funky hip-hop for the world to smoke to.

Boasting features from Luke Skyy (ODX), Dyalekt,, Baby Jae & some crazy cuts by DeeJay Tense, the project is sure to funk dat ass up.

Bet.

Mane Rok & Dyalekt – Santanamation

Mane Rok & Dyalekt - Santanamation

What happens when you take Carlos Santana, Mane Rok, Dyalekt, then put them to do what they do best...?

Now just add features from Xencs L. Wing, Bravo One (One Eyed Kings), and Zé (Diamond Boiz). If that wasn't enough, how about some rhodes played by Riley Boone?

Magic is what you get. No need to guess any longer.

Mane Rok – This One’s (feat. Myrical Child) [Prod. by 800 The Jewell]

paquas

One, Two, Three.... FUCK THE PO.......wait.

Let's not start it off like that, because I don't really think that's the point today. Check this, I woke up to an important email this morning that I've been waitin' for all damn week.  It's the first drop of the This One's remix collaborations.  If you don't already know, This One's is a song written by my boy, Mane Rok, spotlighting police violence and brutality, and for anyone who knows me personally, police violence and brutality are on my list of OMG-Don't-Even-Talk-To-Me-About-This-Shit-Or-It's-Gonna-Get-Ugly topics, along with Columbus, Thanksgiving, etc.

I, myself, was asked by Mane to make a remix, that you may just hear later this week, but this one is directly from my JewellTyme family, 800 The Jewell and Myrical Child, and the instrumental makes my heart fuckin' smile. I luh' dis shiiitt. It's for the kids. But let me start with more details about the song, remixes, release, video, and more:

The time has arrived.

What initially started out as another day making music from the heart has turned in to an event for change.

"This One's" is an anti-police brutality track crafted by Mane Rok some time ago-initially written to the Ichiban/Gunther B collaboration "Japanese Cowboy" instrumental. Having loved the tempo & the concept that he'd came with, Mane Rok asked Ichiban to make a beat that matched the tempo of "Japanese Cowboy" as soon as possible. No slouch on the MPC, Ichiban produced the song immediately, giving Mane Rok & his then partner Theem One the canvas of which to make the most powerful song they had to date.

Creative differences made these members of L.I.F.E.Crew go their separate ways before being able to release their project, and found Mane Rok working more and more with InkLine & DeeJay Tense to eventually form ManeLine.

"This One's" was pushed to the side, but remained heavily on Mane Rok's mind.

The song concept...would be timeless.

Since the Rodney King beating had happened, and with the advance of technology, more and more victims of police brutality would step forward in the years to come, strapped with video of these terrible incidences.

And they seemed to come more and more frequently.

2010 would find Mane Rok, a Denver Native, releasing "The Ugly Truth", his long awaited solo effort which would include "This One's," the same week that Detroit police would shoot a 7 year old Ayana Jones. The album was received to great critical acclaim, with "This One's" being a stand out track to many simply for the content. The idea would then sprout.

Mane Rok & DeeJay Tense were then approached by video director Vince Lance in hopes of collaboration.

After seeing his portfolio, Mane & Tense knew Vince was someone they'd be honored to work with, so the duo through Mr. Lance a copy of "The Ugly Truth" and let him decide which song he'd most like to shoot a video for...

During the process, Mane would run into his old friend (and frequent Eric Heights collaborator) Nache Greene.

Nache having an extensive film/TV background (Dir. for MTv’s Lyricist Lounge Show) was the perfect fit as director for what Vince had by this time proposed: a video shoot for "This One's."

Vince & Mane would sit down and craft a rough story line of which to sell to Nache to get him on board.

The movement was well under way.

As the excitement built, it was revealed more and more how many people felt and understood the concept behind "This One's" and truly stood behind it.

With so many wanting to be apart of what was going on, Mane sent out the call to Denver Hip-Hop artist to remix "This One's" how ever they see fit.

This led to a series of 6 remixes that vary from the hard-hitting Hood-Hop sounds of Jewell Tyme to the face smacking goodness of Dub step remixes from Kolor Grey (RIP) and TimeLine.

Drake – Marvin’s Room (w/ Lyrics)

Drake - Marvin's Room

Drake leaked his new single from his newest project, Take Care, set to release this fall. The song, Marvin's Room, is so hard. SO hard. Go ahead, Drake haters, it's okay to hit play, and give ridiculous and irrational reasons to hate the song, but maybe if you'd just listen to it....without worrying about who else likes it. I don't know. Maybe.

I'm just sayin, you could do better.

Drake - Marvin's Room

Drake - Marvin's Room

Abso-fucking-lutely.   But please, don't love it just because it's Drake, and don't hate it just because it's Drake. If you don't like the R&B sound, hit next, but if you're tryna listen to some music (yes, music), then holla at the link above.

And enough for my weak attempt at silencing Drake-haters and calming Drake-fanatics.

Lyrics:

[Woman on phone]
“Hello
Yeah i just walked in
Yeah i’m good you still working?
tonight, right now?
‘Did i go out’ yeah i went out
I went, i went to a couple of clubs
I never went to bed
shit… wine or water
you should see someone about a cold drink
I don’t know, i’m delirious… night”

[Drake]
Cups of the Rose
Bitches in my old phone
I should call one and go home
I’ve been in this club too long
The woman that I would try
Is happy with a good guy

But I’ve been drinking so much
That I’ma call her anyway and say
“F-ck that nigga that you love so bad
I know you still think about the times we had”
I say “f-ck that nigga that you think you found
And since you picked up I know he’s not around”

(Are you drunk right now?)

I’m just sayin’, you could do better
Tell me have you heard that lately?
I’m just sayin’ you could do better
And I’ll start hatin’, only if you make me

Uh, cups of the XO
All my people been here
I see all of her friends here
Guess she don’t have the time to kick it no more
Flights in the morning
What you doing thats so important?
I’ve been drinking so much
That I’ma call you anyway and say

“F-ck that nigga that you love so bad
I know you still think about the times we had”
I say “f-ck that nigga that you think you found
And since you picked up I know he’s not around”

(Are you drunk right now?)

I’m just sayin’, you could do better
Tell me have you heard that lately
I’m just sayin’ you could do better
And I’ll start hatin’, only if you make me

I think I’m addicted to naked pictures
And sittin talkin’ ’bout bitches
that we almost had
I don’t think I’m concious of making monsters
Outta the women that I sponsor til it all goes bad
But shit it’s all good
We threw a party, yeh we threw a party
Bitches came over, yeh, we threw a party
I was just calling cause they were just leaving
Talk to me please, don’t have much to believe in
I need you right now, are you down to listen to me?
Too many drinks have been given to me
I got some women thats living off me
Paid for their flights and hotels I’m ashamed
Bet that you know them, I won’t say no names
After a while girl they all seem the same
I’ve had sex four times this week I’ll explain
Having a hard time adjusting to fame
Sprite in that mixture, I’ve been talking crazy girl
I’m lucky that you picked up
Lucky that you stayed on
I need someone to put this weight on

[Drake and Woman on phone]
“Well I’m sorry” – Drake
“Are you drunk right now?” – Woman

I’m just sayin’, you could do better
Tell me have you heard that lately
I’m just sayin’ you could do better
And I’ll start hatin’, only if you make me

[Drake on phone]
“You’re not going to come?”
“Guess i’m bout to just kick it here then…”

Just throw up while I hold your hair back
Her white friend said “you niggas crazy”
I hope no-one heard that
I hope no-one heard that
Cause if they did, we gon be in some trouble

Laws – Yesterday’s Future (Mixtape)

Yesterday's Future (Front)

Been waiting patiently for this one...and it's finally here.  Justice League's very own, Laws brings you a 17 track mixtape, his own personal dedication to 1/4 of the Beatles, Paul McCartney.  The project, Yesterday's Future, has been anticipated by Laws fans for months, and it's finally out.

I'm postin' this one before I even listen to the whole thing because I've been too damn excited about it. Here's why:

"Homeland"

"Momma Miss America"

And here it finally is.  After watching those to videos, bobbin' that head of yours to both of those tracks, if you ain't excited for this mixtape yet, punch yourself.

Yesterday's Future (Back)

Full Download: MediaFire

Now that I got this posted, I can finally listen to it myself. Don't fuckin' bother me while I am, either.  You'll feel the same way once your download finishes and you hit Play.

UPDATE 5:38p:

I've listened to it...twice. My conclusion? I've finally heard a mixtape worth listening to on repeat. Yea, I know I said that about Tayyib's mixtape, but as good as I felt about it from the beginning, it lost it's flare a week or two later. Don't get me wrong, it is a dope mixtape, but it wasn't as great as I made it seem. Ehh....it happens. Can't be right all the time.

This one, though...this one is...different. Okay, okay, you don't have to take my word for it, I know how reliable that is considering that last opinion, but when was the last time I lied to you? ....exactly. Laws kills this shit.

Plus, it's always fun to listen catch a hidden track. One of my favorite tracks that Laws has been a part of, Honor, with CyHi Da Prince (another present-time favorite) is featured after the last track, Must Be Wrong, after about 15 seconds. Good surprises when you're a graphic designer, zonin', and you don't realize the mixtape ended and a bonus track started til it's all over.

But don't even take my word for it, check it for your muthafuckin' self. Yes, muthafuckin', because you NEED this mixtape. For real. You NEED it.

My Momma’s Playlist

me and mom

Happy Mother's Day to every woman with a child who reads this, but especially to the one woman on the planet I call, "Momma," yes, just like Forrest did.  And that's because, just like Forrest felt, my momma knows everything. Yes, everything.

I know, you say no one can know everything, but that's just it: my momma knows what she knows, and knows what she doesn't know.  She's not afraid to tell you she doesn't know, she's not one of those mom's that makes shit up because she doesn't know and doesn't know she doesn't know, no, my momma knows, and that's why I can ask her about anything and never get a wrong answer.  And with no wrong answers, a person knows everything.

Yup, now just add the kindest heart on the planet, a sense of humor, a discreet relationship with the word "shit" and utter loath for the word "f***" (censor just for her), a love for family, a rejection for hate, a weakness for cats, a love for God with an irritation with those who argue beliefs (live and let live), a strong will masked by a shy voice, a determination to do anything masked by an "are you sure it's okay?", then just throw in a couple sensitivity streaks, just like her own momma, and no matter the circumstance, a blissful state of calm while playing Bejeweled, Bingo, or Tetris (my mom will smash all you NES nerds, BTW), and you've got my mother. She's amazing, one of a kind, and the best momma on the planet if you ask me.

Now, there are a lot of things me and my momma disagree on like my tattoos, my vulgarity (though I do keep it very minimal around her), and other things I find culture and she see's as a taboo, still there is one thing we've always had in common for as long as my abnormally large ears can remember: music.

And that's what I'm going to use today, to bridge the gap between generations, to take focus off of the tattoo I got yesterday and her, "you better not look like the Birdman" comment, and more importantly than all of my jokes: to find solice in the one thing me and my momma have never disagreed on.  So, this is My Momma's Playlist, a list of songs that remind me of her, that we've jammed out to together, no matter the genre, no matter the difference in styles or culture, these songs are the ones that keep us busy on road trips to New Mexico with each other and keep us sane around my easily-frustrated-by-impatience father (who I also love very much and wouldn't have any other way).
