Mane Rok – This One’s (feat. Myrical Child) [Prod. by 800 The Jewell]

paquas

One, Two, Three.... FUCK THE PO.......wait.

Let's not start it off like that, because I don't really think that's the point today. Check this, I woke up to an important email this morning that I've been waitin' for all damn week.  It's the first drop of the This One's remix collaborations.  If you don't already know, This One's is a song written by my boy, Mane Rok, spotlighting police violence and brutality, and for anyone who knows me personally, police violence and brutality are on my list of OMG-Don't-Even-Talk-To-Me-About-This-Shit-Or-It's-Gonna-Get-Ugly topics, along with Columbus, Thanksgiving, etc.

I, myself, was asked by Mane to make a remix, that you may just hear later this week, but this one is directly from my JewellTyme family, 800 The Jewell and Myrical Child, and the instrumental makes my heart fuckin' smile. I luh' dis shiiitt. It's for the kids. But let me start with more details about the song, remixes, release, video, and more:

The time has arrived.

What initially started out as another day making music from the heart has turned in to an event for change.

"This One's" is an anti-police brutality track crafted by Mane Rok some time ago-initially written to the Ichiban/Gunther B collaboration "Japanese Cowboy" instrumental. Having loved the tempo & the concept that he'd came with, Mane Rok asked Ichiban to make a beat that matched the tempo of "Japanese Cowboy" as soon as possible. No slouch on the MPC, Ichiban produced the song immediately, giving Mane Rok & his then partner Theem One the canvas of which to make the most powerful song they had to date.

Creative differences made these members of L.I.F.E.Crew go their separate ways before being able to release their project, and found Mane Rok working more and more with InkLine & DeeJay Tense to eventually form ManeLine.

"This One's" was pushed to the side, but remained heavily on Mane Rok's mind.

The song concept...would be timeless.

Since the Rodney King beating had happened, and with the advance of technology, more and more victims of police brutality would step forward in the years to come, strapped with video of these terrible incidences.

And they seemed to come more and more frequently.

2010 would find Mane Rok, a Denver Native, releasing "The Ugly Truth", his long awaited solo effort which would include "This One's," the same week that Detroit police would shoot a 7 year old Ayana Jones. The album was received to great critical acclaim, with "This One's" being a stand out track to many simply for the content. The idea would then sprout.

Mane Rok & DeeJay Tense were then approached by video director Vince Lance in hopes of collaboration.

After seeing his portfolio, Mane & Tense knew Vince was someone they'd be honored to work with, so the duo through Mr. Lance a copy of "The Ugly Truth" and let him decide which song he'd most like to shoot a video for...

During the process, Mane would run into his old friend (and frequent Eric Heights collaborator) Nache Greene.

Nache having an extensive film/TV background (Dir. for MTv’s Lyricist Lounge Show) was the perfect fit as director for what Vince had by this time proposed: a video shoot for "This One's."

Vince & Mane would sit down and craft a rough story line of which to sell to Nache to get him on board.

The movement was well under way.

As the excitement built, it was revealed more and more how many people felt and understood the concept behind "This One's" and truly stood behind it.

With so many wanting to be apart of what was going on, Mane sent out the call to Denver Hip-Hop artist to remix "This One's" how ever they see fit.

This led to a series of 6 remixes that vary from the hard-hitting Hood-Hop sounds of Jewell Tyme to the face smacking goodness of Dub step remixes from Kolor Grey (RIP) and TimeLine.

TYL@3:30a (#5): Tom Hanks’ Bro Is Also Woody

tom-hanks

I was gonna go to sleep...then I got caught up on YouTube...and my, oh my, was it amazing, as always. So check this out, I've always said Tom Hanks is like the most normal celebrity on the planet, then Jon Stewart confirmed he felt the same a while back, and now, I'm further convinced: Tom Hanks is a cool ass white dude. I think if I had to vote for a celebrity to be president, I don't know if I'd pick Tom Hanks, but I'd highly consider him.  I bet Tom Hanks could whoop Chuck Norris' ass.

Cholo Fest 3: Backyard Boxing

cholofest3

Good evening, just-got-off-of-workers. How's it feel to finally be online without your boss talkin' shit? Great, I know

So, after an EPIC Fourth of July Weekend (yes, I said EPIC, if you don't like it you can go fuck yourself), I finally got together the videos from Cholo Fest 3 (July 2nd), which was probably the dopest beginning to a weekend since Cholo Fest 2 last year.

The festivities included 7 kegs sitting on ice in a kiddy pool:
(only 4 shown, but there were 7...trust)

An Andrew W.K. coverband:
Fireworks:
But best of all....backyard boxing:

scarletSmoke.net presents:
Cholo Fest 3: Backyard Boxing
07-02-2011

Video source --- Cell phone
Location --- Backyard in Denver, CO
Host --- Joaquin Romero

Match 1
Joe Padilla vs Sam Abdulhafiz

Note --- Obviously cell phone's don't shoot the best video, but I applied image stabilizer's to make it easier on the eyes. Some of the video is choppy because the cell phone I was using kept getting phone calls, which also explains some of the missing pieces, but this is most of the fight. The latter fight videos for Cholo Fest 3 don't have the same problem.

Match 2
Luis Ortega vs Moises Plazola

Note --- The fight had excessive dead time so it's been cut down to the intro and the fighting scenes.

Match 3: Main Event
Thomas Garcia vs Dominic Atencio

Note --- This was the only fight that went the distance. 5 rounds, 2 minutes each. Catch a DenverFrank cameo at the end.

Cholo Fest on Facebook --- https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cholo-Fest/163916160341198

I got to Cholo Fest around 3:30p, and didn't leave til after Midnight...and it was crazy packed even after I left. Yea, I feel bad for anyone who missed it...suckers.
